Andy Fitzgerald, M Eng, MBA, P Eng
President

After serving in various maintenance management and engineering positions with the Canadian Air Force for over 20 years, Andy Fitzgerald retired as a senior officer in 2006 and co-founded ACF Associates. With his in-depth understanding of the military and commercial aerospace environments and his proven leadership and management capabilities, Andy’s focus has been to provide demonstrated performance improvement to both government and civilian industry through the development and implementation of Integrated Performance-Based Management Systems. Andy is also a lecturer at the Royal Military College of Canada in Aerospace Maintenance Management

Andrea Crossland, PhD
Vice President

Andrea Crossland co-founded ACF Associates after being employed in training, education, and research at universities and in civilian industry. She has a comprehensive understanding of the military environment and in particular the military technical training programs as well as the technologies available to augment those programs. She has authored a number of scholarly articles in areas of technician training, technical troubleshooting, and integrated performance based management. She specializes in providing organizations with performance based management solutions and has experience in research as well as program/project/product design, development, and implementation.

Lee Merchant, MASc, P Eng
Senior Associate

As an Aerospace Engineering Officer for 20 years in the Canadian Air Force, Lee gained an in-depth understanding of all aspects of aircraft maintenance. As an aircraft systems technical authority, he was responsible for the in-service support of the CF188 engine/secondary power program, gas turbine engine testing facilities, and auxiliary power units. As a Senior Engineering Officer and Maintenance Manager, he managed the preventative and corrective aircraft maintenance programs for the CF188 squadron. As the Commanding Officer for 10 Field Technical Training Squadron, Lee led the training of all CF188 technician trades focussing on the effective and efficient training of apprentice technicians. Prior to joining ACF Associates Inc., Lee was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Royal Military College of Canada.

Daniel Bouchard, MASc, P Eng
Associate

Daniel joined ACF Associates after working in gas turbine research and in the manufacturing industry. He has experience working in the industrial sector and with the Canadian Forces at the Royal Military College of Canada. He has conducted research on various gas turbines including the Rolls-Royce T-56, Pratt & Whitney PT-6 and the Rolls-Royce/Allison Model 250. Daniel spent 2 years participating in the development and implementation of an annular experimental test facility to evaluate and assess in-service damage on a high-pressure turbine. This research has improved damage detection techniques in the gas turbine maintenance, repair and overhaul industry. Daniel also has experience in performance metric development, project management, transonic aerodynamics, computational simulations and data analysis.

Tim  Boushel, P Eng, MBA
Associate

Tim joined ACF Associates after working in the Rail manufacturing and infrastructure sectors where he gained System Engineering and Project Management experience on major projects. Through his time at the Schulich School of Business, he has been trained in Managerial Finance, Management Accounting, Operations Management and Managing Change and has a keen interest in increasing organizational efficiency through performance measurement, analysis, and improvement. Since joining ACF Associates, Tim has supported the development of Performance Measurement, Project Management, and Program Cost Analysis Tools.

Matt Brezina, MASc
Associate

Matt joined ACF Associates after working in aircraft performance optimization research and previously in the auto parts manufacturing industry. During his time at Carleton University, he worked on aircraft design for aeroacoustic noise reduction and developed a non-linear numerical optimization tool that was used to optimize the shape of both aircraft wings and wind turbine blades. Matt has also been involved with the design and development of engineering projects including a fixed-wing UAV for remote delivery of payloads, pneumatic equipment automation, and robotic systems for disaster scenarios. Matt is passionate about the aerospace industry, and his professional interests are in engineering design and performance optimization. Since joining ACF, Matt has worked on RCAF in-service support programs by developing performance metrics, project management, data analysis and program cost modeling.

Jen Gatenby, B Eng
Associate

Jen joined ACF Associates after working as a systems analyst with experience in machinery analysis, modeling and simulation, repair and overhaul processes, and the design/development and in-service support of machinery control, condition monitoring, and maintenance systems.  Jen’s background is in Aerospace Engineering specializing in aircraft systems, structures, and vehicle design with research experience at various universities.  Jen is passionate about aviation, with her Private Pilot’s License and an avid interest in Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft.  She is involved in the American Helicopter Society (AHS) and Carleton University’s Rotocraft Unmanned Aerial System (RUAS) design project team.  In 2015, she was featured as part of the 2015 Canadian Women in Aerospace Spotlight by the Chair for Women in Science and Engineering.  Since joining ACF, her focus has been on performance measurement, project management, and data analysis for RCAF in-service support.

Chris Grinton
Associate

As a retired Canadian Forces Master Warrant Officer, Chris joined ACF Associates with over 29 years of aircraft aviation experience on fixed wing and rotary platforms. His aviation experience ranges from technical to supervisory and managerial. He possesses a thorough understanding of 1st and 2nd Line Maintenance, Training Standards and Life Cycle Material Management, Maintenance Policies & Procedures, Automated Reporting Systems, Quality Management Systems, Technical Airworthiness Programs and Technical Standard Programs.  Since joining ACF, Chris has been primarily involved with Performance Measurement of Maintenance.

Daniel Guindon, B Eng
Associate

With a strong passion for gas turbines and aviation, Dan spent 7 years as an AVN aircraft technician in the CF-18 Hornet fleet. During his time, he specialized in the diagnosis and repair of engine, fuel, and environmental control systems. He retired from the Canadian Air Force in 2014 and pursued a diploma in Aircraft Mechanics as well as a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering from RMC. During his degree studies, he worked as a technologist in the RMC Mechanical Engineering workshop and as a research assistant in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Non-Destructive Testing. Dan has continued his interest for aviation since joining ACF Associates in 2018. His skills are based on Technical Support, Air Worthiness, Data and Project Management.

Ihor Kozak, B Eng, MBA
Senior Consulting Associate

Ihor spent 11 years as an officer with the Canadian Armed Forces, serving in various leadership positions, domestically and internationally. Some of his responsibilities included flight-line aircraft maintenance management for domestic and deployed operations, and establishment of a Logistics Support Program for a major aircraft acquisition program.

In 2008, Ihor retired from the Department of National Defence to become an entrepreneur and a strategy & management consultant, and has been active in industry, government and not-for-profit sectors throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East.

Since joining ACF Associates, Ihor’s focus has been on providing enhanced program management, business process reengineering, performance management, quality management system, technical airworthiness and aircraft maintenance solutions for the Royal Canadian Air Force and a number of aerospace companies.

Robert Parsons, B Eng
Associate

Rob Parsons joined ACF Associates after completing his education in Energy Management and Engineering. Through his education, Rob has gained experience in process simulation, analysis and design. Rob became passionate about the aviation industry while completing his Capstone Project at university which focused on designing and modelling a Merox process used to remove mercaptans from Jet A-1 Fuel in an oil refinery. Since joining ACF, Rob has supported the development of Performance Measurement, Project Management, and Data Analysis Tools.

Pascale Robichaud, MSc
Associate

Pascale joined ACF Associates after working as a research associate doing work in the Agricultural and Energy sectors. Here she gained experience managing large datasets and designing efficient databases to live feed web applications that would assist stakeholders in decision making. Pascale’s background is in Geographic Information Systems which focuses on capturing, storing, manipulating, analyzing, managing, and presenting spatial data. She is able to translate these skills to her projects with ACF Associates in the aerospace sector where she has supported data entry, data analysis, process development and implementation efforts.

Neil Smith
Associate

As a retired Canadian Forces Warrant Officer, Neil has over 28 years of military aviation experience ranging from technical to supervisory to managerial and, as a result of the various positions he has held, possesses an in-depth knowledge of current military aviation requirements. Since joining ACF Associates, Neil has focused his expertise on efficient maintenance practices, performance measurement of maintenance, long-term program planning and life cycle material management activities.

Brian Tucci
Associate

With over 33 years of service, retired Chief Warrant Officer Brian Tucci, has extensive experience on numerous aircraft platforms in all areas of responsibility. He possesses 1st and 2nd Line maintenance knowledge at all levels, on more than 7 different aircraft types, encompassing both fixed and rotary winged aircraft on land and at sea. His employment on major capital procurement projects provide him with comprehensive knowledge of DND’s Technical Training, Airworthiness and Quality systems. Since joining ACF, he has concentrated on assisting various organizations with obtaining Airworthiness and AS9100 Accreditations.
